How can we plan and organize the restauration of a building, of a sculpture of a site in the era of a virus that has locked down millions and millions of people?

How can a team go on working together from various areas of the region or of the country, to plan, draw, arrange and put together a strategy that will bring back to life, an ancient building, a beautiful Villa or a piece of mosaics?

At a first sight, the immediate and simplest answer to this question, might be a simple “You can’t”, you can’t go on, you simply need to put at a halt what you are doing, waiting for better times.

But Italians are worldwide famous, apart from their pizza and pasta and wine, also for their creativity and for never giving up in front of any difficulties, used, as they are, to face, on a regular basis, with never ending obstacles, caused by bureaucracy, ancient structures and mentality

Therefore, in our Swot Analysis of the situation, after evaluating the opportunities and the threats of this unexpected situation, we decided to transform this huge threat into an opportunity and to coordinate with the rest of the team involved, a series of activities that could be done in smart working, at a distance, from home, because our main concern for our team and for ourselves was and is, to fight, all together this lethal virus that seems to find in what we love most, human relationships, its “ bridge”, so to speak, to infect one another.

We therefore started from creating a remote accessible file containing all the documents and projects to be shared among the people involved, reducing to zero the need to move from one office to another: reducing to zero the chance for the virus to spread and cause damages.

The worksite we were working on at the time of the outbreak of the global pandemic, was a beautiful villa in Tuscany, Villa Corsini,

where the construction manager and the health and safety procedures manager, shared with RestauroItalia the same attitude towards a quality of life and work that brought all of us to shift to a procedure that enabled all the parts involved, not only to share files, but also to accomplish and execute all the paper work, the certificates, the audit records of the building company, enabling each end everyone  to continue working in absolute safety and with no health hazard.

This has made it possible for the works to suffer no delays and to allow the team to keep up with the working pace and the delivery terms.

This huge crisis, which none of us would have ever wanted or expected, has taught us a good lesson and provided us with tools and technology and an attitude that, only a couple of months ago, were unheard of  and has made it  possible for any client willing to follow up his project from abroad or simply from his home, to have it done at best.

The world is changing and we at RestauroItalia are changing with it.
